I awoke my senses super heightened I could tell something was wrong it had been so perfect this last year no conflict whatsoever.
Food was plentiful and Anatoli and mother had become closer it was no surprise to me though seeing as they had been through so much together it was testament to our survival the hard work they had put in to make us thrive giving us the larger portions so we grew big and strong whilst they grew thinner.
During our time when we had to be in hiding due to the things that went on before and things were too dangerous to venture out what meagre rations were divvied between us and well mother and Anatoli almost became skeletal they paid the price for our survival…..
It must have been hard for Anatoli  to admit defeat  and face the big threat alone and go and ask Einar for assistance, those two never did see eye to eye sadly maybe things would have been different if they both weren’t too stubborn.
Anyway I digress there was definitely something about to happen a shudder ran through me and in all truthfulness I struggled to see anything good coming out of this for our small platoon.
Salida woke up and I could see in her eyes that the same thing was going through her mind but she seemed to pick up more than what I was getting but that was normality she always seemed to pick up the depressing events and me I tried to decipher the happy events that would come to pass but there never really seemed to be that much happiness to be found from these visions more often than not.
I turned to Salida and stood up shaking out my pelt, she did the same looking at me concern on her face she sighs.

“When the sun sets staining the sky the large winged birds will return, the humans will claim that which was once theirs again and all will be lost, the souls will roam the earth again, the bodies of our ancestors destroyed no longer at rest they’ll roam the plain their mournful voices howling in the wind.”
My ears went back at that I knew just as much but well I couldn’t have put that better myself  I headed out over the border my sister at my side.
“We have to get what we can we will only have a month before our small world will be changed forever”
I knew what we were about to do was sacrilege but if we were to save anything of our ancestors we had to go now or everything would be lost I knew we couldn’t move the bodies but at the very least we could get their grave markers and put them on Renowned land where they would be safe.
We scented our way across the land going over to the old Russian camp which we had made our home before Salida and I warned the pack that we had to move a month ago this puzzled the group but knowing of our ability to see things they acquiesced on our territory and moved to the radio station at the top of the hill instead which was where we made our home.

We approached the camp a sense of foreboding within us as we entered causing our fur to stand on end a light breeze whipping up our coats as we made our way to our ancestors resting places taking the dog tags there from the small pikes of wood sticking out of the ground.
It was a sombre task but it had to be done I handed some of them to Salida as I entered the old barracks where our father made home.
A sharp pain going through me damn why did I make Salida stand guard it hurt so much to be a apart even for a heartbeat. A whine came from me and I almost tumbled to the ground the pain so sharp I would have to be quick I knew Salida would be going through the same thing.
I found the object I had come for my father’s cap I placed the 10 or so dog tags I had managed to salvage the pain leaving me the closer I got to her.
“I’m sorry I shouldn’t have left your side but well this was pulling me it has father’s scent all over it, pity we never got to meet him in the flesh he was a great dog I still feel he is watching over us even now.”
Salida just nods rubbing her muzzle in my ruff “we better go mother and Tolya will be waiting for us best not let them find us here we better head to the signal post get these stored until we can tell them properly.
They’ll be mad but it’s better than the alternative at least we can make a memorial for them even if we couldn’t save their bones.”
I sighed some happy news finally coming through it was slightly cryptic at last good news to our pack, a pup would be born to Anatoli and Scarlet and this one was special no he had no gift and there would be sadness when he would be taken from us but all was not bad news as he would never give up on us…….
We headed back to camp a feeling of foreboding upon us but within my heart a ray of sunshine at least.
I carried the cap with half the dog tags of the fallen in it whilst Salida carried the rest wrapped up in the red flag which we had had since our birth.
We lay them on the window sill of the cabin and then went to tell Scarlet and Tolya what fate would befall our small pack and what would become of those we once loved who had gone on to the next life.
They were upset at first knowing that Salida and I had taken the markers from their graves but when we told them what was to come to pass they thanked us at least now I ancestors would have a place where we would never let our enemy reach we would fight tooth and nail to defend the Russian camp that was for sure but all in all we would lose their numbers too big they had man and machine on their side.
This takes place 2 months before Trova appear on the Island Salida and Illarion managing to salvage what they could of their comrades graves
